👋 Overview

This Privacy Policy explains what information Punstr ("we," "our," or "us") collects when you use our web application at punstr.netlify.app (the "App"), how we use it, and your rights regarding that information.

By using Punstr, you agree to the practices described in this policy. If you do not agree, please do not use the App.

📦 Information We Collect

Punstr collects minimal information to operate the service:

• Joke preferences you enter — joke type, topic, tone, and audience you select when generating a joke. These are sent to our server to generate your joke and are not stored after the response is returned.
• Saved jokes and ratings — stored exclusively in your browser's localStorage on your own device. We never transmit this data to our servers.
• Basic server logs — when you use the App, our hosting provider (Netlify) may automatically log your IP address, browser type, and request timestamps. These logs are used for security and operational purposes and are retained per Netlify's standard policies.

We do not collect your name, email address, phone number, or any account information. No account or sign-in is required to use Punstr.

🚫 Information We Do NOT Collect

• No names, emails, or contact details
• No account credentials or passwords
• No payment or financial information
• No location data beyond what your IP address may suggest
• No tracking cookies or cross-site tracking
• No advertising identifiers
• No device fingerprinting

⚡ How We Use Your Information

The joke criteria you submit are sent to our serverless function, which passes them to the Groq AI API to generate a joke. This data is used solely to produce your requested joke and is not stored, logged, or used for any other purpose.

We use Netlify's infrastructure logs only to monitor uptime, diagnose errors, and prevent abuse. We do not use this data for advertising or profiling.

🤝 Third-Party Services

Punstr uses the following third-party services to function:

• Groq (groq.com) — processes your joke criteria to generate jokes using AI. Your inputs are sent to Groq's API. Please review Groq's Privacy Policy for details on how they handle API data.
• Netlify (netlify.com) — hosts and serves the App. Netlify may collect standard server log data. Please review Netlify's Privacy Policy for more information.
• Google Fonts — loads the Space Grotesk font. Google may log font requests. See Google's Privacy Policy.

We do not share your data with any other third parties.

💾 Data Storage & Security

Your saved jokes and ratings are stored in your browser's localStorage — a local storage mechanism that keeps data on your own device only. This data never leaves your device and is not accessible to us.

You can clear your saved jokes at any time by using the "Clear All" button in your Jokebook, or by clearing your browser's site data in your device settings.

While we implement reasonable safeguards, no method of internet transmission is 100% secure. We encourage you not to submit sensitive personal information through the App (and there is no reason to — it's a joke generator!).

👶 Children's Privacy

Punstr is not directed at children under the age of 13. We do not knowingly collect personal information from children under 13. If you believe a child has submitted personal information through the App, please contact us and we will take steps to delete that information.

🌍 Your Rights

Because we collect minimal data and store jokes only on your own device, most data rights are within your own control. You can:

• Clear your saved jokes and ratings at any time via the Jokebook
• Clear all App data via your browser's site data settings
• Contact us to request deletion of any server log data associated with your IP address

If you are located in the European Economic Area (EEA), United Kingdom, or California, you may have additional rights under GDPR or CCPA. Please contact us to exercise these rights.

🔄 Changes to This Policy

We may update this Privacy Policy from time to time. When we do, we will update the "Last updated" date at the top of this page. We encourage you to review this policy periodically. Continued use of the App after changes constitutes acceptance of the updated policy.
